Do women take offense being called a girl....
says JD on Oct 13th 16 (#799580)
I think it depends greatly on the context and tone of the statement, but I'm sure some would take offense anyway.
says Will_Janitor on Oct 13th 16 (#2410116)
I think it's flattering....
says JD on Oct 13th 16 (#2410119)
I am doing my best to keep up on the ever changing world of words. I am happy to share my new found wisdom with you all.
So, the noun - 'girl' can be used freely, without risking offense UNLESS the context implies or relates to gender. We are gender free now, soon species will also become insignificant - but don't start dating your dog just yet. Better let all the homo, tranny, lesbian crapola blow over first.
Glad to be of help.
says Budwick on Oct 13th 16 (#2410154)
That all depends whom I'm talking with. I mostly call them ladies. If she's 25 she's a young lady. Girls is normally used for 15-16-17 year old females. Of course that's just my opinion.
says Synyster on Oct 13th 16 (#2410321)
I agree with that, but is calling a female a girl offensive or just wrong...
says JD on Oct 13th 16 (#2410335)
I don't think it's offensive, not sure it's wrong either. I mean if you are talking to three females and you leave and say ... see later girls ... nothing wrong with that.
says Synyster on Oct 13th 16 (#2410349)
I am Woman hear me "Prrrrrrrrrrr"
says Darkest_Serenity on Oct 13th 16 (#2410455)
Of course you are, girly
says JD on Oct 13th 16 (#2410459)
"Grrrrrrrrrrrr" You crack me up JD when you call me Girl or Kiddo , considering the conversations we have shared.
says Darkest_Serenity on Oct 13th 16 (#2410462)
I know it winds you up....Sowwy
says JD on Oct 13th 16 (#2410524)
You make me feel about 12 when you do but I forget your age when we're talking , when we're mucking about with each other.
says Darkest_Serenity on Oct 13th 16 (#2410532)
I think Will_Janitor pretty much summed it up. It does definitely depend on the context of when and why a woman is being referred to as a girl.
It is rare, that I or most women I know would be actually be "offended" by being called a "girl".
says Piper2 on Oct 13th 16 (#2410568)
You would be offended by being called a girl....it's not a bad word....I would probably call you a lady or women, but I would not consider I was insulting you by saying girl....thanks for your input
says JD on Oct 14th 16 (#2410624)
I didn't say that, at all. There are a certain contexts in which calling a woman a "girl" are meant to be offensive. Just like calling a man a "boy" sometimes is.
says Piper2 on Oct 14th 16 (#2410640)
Boy is not offensive, but as you say in certain contexts it can be used as a put down for a man....
says JD on Oct 14th 16 (#2410809)
Oh I don't find it offensive at all. Trust me, I have been called worse
Even when people say "now what are you gonna do or say about it little girl".I typically respond with something far worse than being called that like "city slicker".

Depends on the context. Many can get offended too easily though.
says DakotaErdmann on Oct 22nd 16 (#2415496)
No, I feel weird when people call me a woman.
says cali93 on Oct 22nd 16 (#2415563)
People call me "young woman" and I like it. It feels kind.

A man I dated got offended when I called him a boy. Is it worse to call a man a boy than to call a woman a girl?
says Pikachu93 on Oct 22nd 16 (#2415803)
I think with boy, it can be used as a put down...or nicely used for a guy in up to his mid teens...
says JD on Oct 23rd 16 (#2416139)
I actually prefer the word girl.
says amberleechoo on Oct 23rd 16 (#2416134)
Thanks amber ...
says JD on Oct 23rd 16 (#2416136)
I said ...yes mam to my wife and she got offended...**** if I know why
says RECRUIT on Oct 31st 16 (#2422632)
I don't. If I'm going to get offended, it's going to be over something a heck of a lot more important than being called a girl.
